ATHENS, Ga. —The Georgia Bulldogs worked out for two hours Thursday in shorts and shoulder pads, marking the fourth session of their pre-season football practices.

After practice, selected defensive players discussed how camp is progressing. One of the players was senior safety Quincy Mauger, who confirmed that his name has been mispronounced publicly for years. Rather than “maw-guhr,” it’s actually “mo-ZHAY” as his parents were born in Haiti.

“Family and close friends, they always knew,” he said. “My mom wanted me to get it right. I’ve heard it as Munger, Maugher, Mooger … I’ve heard it all. In English, it’s ‘maw-gurh,’ but in French, in creole, it’s ‘mo-ZHAY.'”

With the correct pronunciation now in hand, Mauger talked about well the Bulldogs have been doing in camp.

“I can tell you one thing, offense, defense and special teams have been doing a great job showing great tempo,” Mauger said. “We’ve been physical with great tenacity. We’ve been going at it every day and not letting up.”

“We’re all working hard and we’re getting better every day,” sophomore defensive tackle DaQuan Hawkins said. “We’re close to putting on the pads, and it’s exciting to get to compete my teammates to make them better and to make me better. We’re getting better individually, as a (line) unit and as a team. We’re all buying in and staying focused. We’re worried about the team and what we can do to help it be better.”

The Bulldogs will continue pre-season practice Friday. They will have an open practice Saturday to kick off the 2016 Fan Day celebration at Sanford Stadium.

Georgia begins the 2016 season on Sat., Sept. 3 against North Carolina in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic in Atlanta.  Kickoff is schedule for 5:30 p.m. (EDT).
