ATHENS, Ga- The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (11-0, 8-0 SEC) defeated the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (4-6) 56-7 in the final game in front of a Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium crowd. Seniors were recognized before the game and after the game, senior defensive tackle Jordan Davis took the podium as he was handed an honorary Red Coat Band plaque and jacket before he directed the band’s performance of Glory, Glory.

 

Head coach Kirby Smart on Jordan Davis- “Jordan is a very worldly young man and he’s got friends across the campus, a lot of them in the Red Coat Band. He had brought up the chance to honor them and go over and thank them for what they’ve done for our team, the program, and the university. They came up with the plan to do that.”

 

Four quarterbacks got game action for the Bulldogs today in the blowout victory. Starting quarterback Stetson Bennett finished 8-of-14 passing for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns along with an interception through the air. JT Daniels, who relieved Bennett at quarterback early in the second quarter finished the game 7-of-12 passing for 73 yards while adding a touchdown. Carson Beck also added a touchdown through the air in the third quarter.

 

Zamir White led the way for the Bulldogs on the ground as he finished with a team high 83 rushing yards on just 4 carries. James Cook and Daijun Edwards also added touchdowns on the ground.

 

Brock Bowers led all pass catchers with 4 receptions producing 36 yards and 2 touchdowns. His 2 touchdowns on the day increases his team high in touchdown receptions to 8 on the season.

 

Carson Beck entered the game at quarterback for the Bulldog’s second possession of the half. His second attempt would be completed for 27-yards down the sideline to Jackson Meeks. On fourth-and-goal, Beck’s pass intended for Meeks would be intercepted in the endzone giving Charleston Southern the ball back at their own 20-yard line.

 

The Bulldog defense followed by getting their first takeaway of the day as Xavian Sorey intercepts Charleston Southern quarterback Jack Chambers. Sorey would fumble the ball during the interception return and Garris Schwarting of Charleston Southern would pick up the fumble and return it 65-yards for the first score of the day for the Buccaneers to cut their deficit to 49-7.

 

The Bulldogs would find the endzone on their ensuing drive as Carson Beck connects with Brett Seither from 9-yards out to extend the Bulldog lead to 56-7 with just over 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter. Seither had a 30-yard reception earlier in the drive to help set up his first career touchdown.

 

Brock Vandagriff would enter the game at quarterback for the Bulldogs with just under 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Following two-straight rushes, his first career pass as a Bulldog fell incomplete on third down. After a Charleston Southern turnover-on-downs, the Bulldog offense would take back over at their own 12-yard line with 4:02 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs gave three different players their first carry of the season before punting the ball back to the Buccaneers who follow by running out the clock.
