Georgia football is adding a new look to its storied tradition.
The Bulldogs announced Wednesday that they will wear all-white uniforms for the first time in program history when they host Western Kentucky on Sept. 12 at Sanford Stadium. The new combination features white helmets, white jerseys and white pants, giving Georgia a completely different look than fans have ever seen on game day.
The reveal came during a team meeting, where players were surprised with a video unveiling the new uniforms. The reaction in the room made it clear the Bulldogs are excited to take the field in the fresh threads.
“I feel like that’s going to bring a spark to the stadium definitely,” safety KJ Bolden said. “The fans are going to love it. It’s going to be an electric week for sure.”
Linebacker Chris Cole said the reveal caught him completely off guard. As someone who hoped to see Georgia wear an all-white combination while he was being recruited, the moment made the announcement even more special.
“Honestly, I wasn’t expecting that at all, and I was so excited,” Cole said. “I remember, KJ [Bolden] sits right next to me, and I was like, ‘Wait, where’s KJ? Is he late to the meeting?’ But I remember they popped out in the all-white, and I’m so excited for that because, as a recruit, I used to love coming here. I wanted the all-white [uniform], and that’s what I want to wear. So I’m excited.”
A rare uniform change under Kirby Smart
Alternate uniforms have been few and far between during Kirby Smart‘s tenure.
The Bulldogs last wore alternate uniforms in the 2021 Peach Bowl, defeating Cincinnati 24-21 while wearing black jerseys. The only other time Georgia has worn black jerseys under Smart came during the 2020 season against Mississippi State.
Since then, Smart has largely embraced Georgia’s traditional look, making any uniform change a significant event.
That’s part of what makes the all-white debut so unique. Rather than bringing back the black jerseys, Georgia is introducing an entirely new combination that fans have requested for years.
Players helped unveil the new look
Tight end Lawson Luckie and Bolden were tasked with revealing the uniforms to the rest of the team during the meeting, giving them a front-row seat to one of the more anticipated moments of fall camp.
“Yeah, so it was me and KJ showing it to the team,” Luckie told the media on Wednesday. “I thought that was a dope little responsibility that we had. But, I mean, at the end of the day, it’s just a different uniform we’re wearing. But, like, it’s cool, especially being able to do it in Sanford Stadium.”
While Luckie noted the uniforms won’t determine the outcome on Saturdays, he said unveiling a brand-new look in front of the Sanford Stadium crowd makes the moment memorable.
A fresh look for Sanford Stadium
The Sept. 12 matchup against Western Kentucky will now carry even more anticipation.
Sanford Stadium is expected to be packed, and the all-white uniforms should create a striking visual. Combined with Georgia’s entrance and one of college football’s loudest home environments, the debut has the potential to become one of the season’s most memorable moments.
Whether the Bulldogs wear the combination again remains to be seen, but the first all-white look is already generating plenty of excitement among players and fans alike.
For a program built on tradition, Georgia is adding a new chapter to its uniform history. The Bulldogs have rarely strayed from their classic look under Smart, making this debut feel like more than just a uniform change.
It’s a fresh twist on one of college football’s most iconic brands, and if the reaction from players is any indication, Sanford Stadium will be buzzing when Georgia takes the field in white from head to toe for the first time.
