The Georgia Bulldogs are one win away from the NCAA Super Regionals, and they will have a chance to punch their ticket Sunday evening at Foley Field in Athens.
Georgia enters the Athens Regional Final at 48-12 after going 2-0 in the regional, including an 18-2 blowout of Long Island and a 6-2 win over Liberty on Saturday. The Bulldogs have been dominant all weekend, hitting 14 home runs across two games while holding opponents to just five total hits on the mound.
Their opponent Sunday will be determined by the noon ET elimination game between Boston College and Liberty. The winner of that game will face Georgia at 5 p.m. ET with their season on the line. Because of the double-elimination format, Boston College or Liberty would need to beat Georgia twice in a row to advance, with a potential second game scheduled for Monday if necessary.
Georgia coach Wes Johnson kept his starting pitcher close to the vest Saturday night, indicating the decision would depend on who comes out of the elimination game. Caden Aoki appears to be the likely option, with Paul Farley and Zach Brown also available.
“The job’s not done,” Johnson said. “We’ve just put ourselves in position to play one game Sunday. Real simple. We played good against Liberty. You’ve got to seize the moment.”
Dave Neal and former Georgia baseball star Gordon Beckham will be on the call from Foley Field.
